GNOME. this is turning into somewhat of an obsession.
Just Do It
You know those stories about really incredible people who do really incredible things? Things that contribute to world peace, saving the environment, giving an economic leg-up to people in developing nations, etc. And they always seem to accomplish this amazing feat before they reach 30. Or even 20. Damn.
I could never be like them. That’s what I’ve always told myself. They’re super-human. They know things, and I have no clue.
I’m finally realizing that it’s not that I’m subpar or that I have no idea how to go about anything- it’s that I had no passion. There was nothing that moved me to the point of serious action. I had no reason to get off my ass and DO something. Sure, there are plenty of causes in the world. But if we as individuals try to take them all on, we become overwhelmed and we burn out. Maybe I’m way off here, but I feel that if I put my full energy into something I’m passionate about, I’ll make more of a difference. And collectively, we’ll all make a greater impact on the world.
After visiting Rwanda and meeting widows and wives of offenders who have reconciled and work side by side producing different goods, I have found my cause. Many of those women are homeless and caring for multiple children. And I want to do something. I don’t know exactly how to go about it, but I’m talking to people and I’m researching. I’m starting to think those incredible people who accomplished incredible things are more like passionate people who found a cause and just did it.
Now it’s my turn.
No matter where you go, there you are.”
